Where light was once sparse, the new owner of this rural Hillsborough home desired bright spaces that would remind her of the serenity and openness of the countryside. The previously dark interiors are transformed by white-washed walls and abundant windows overlooking the pastoral setting. A broad front porch invites relaxed lingering and various interior sitting areas assure gracious entertaining for family and friends. A dramatic bridge spans the lower level living room and connects upstairs bedrooms with a home office. The elegant yet warm kitchen is ready to deliver a quiet dinner or a party for a crowd. The luxurious first floor primary suite enjoys views of the picturesque adjacent barn and resident farm animals. An efficient mud room and laundry room includes a dog wash for the resident mascot. The owner’s whimsy is revealed by personal touches such as the window in the bathroom opening to a chandelier that falls above the foyer, delightful Americana artifacts, and an old fireplace displayed in a marble niche. A strong collaborative relationship between owner, contractor and architect contributed to the success of this project.
