Katie Wakeford enjoyed a recent opportunity to visit the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Department of Interior Architecture where she serves on the Board of Advisors.
In 2014, the department launched the Center for Community-Engaged Design. As their website describes, “The Center for Community-Engaged Design is an interdisciplinary research center that fosters community/university partnerships for meaningful research and design of the built and natural environments…CC-ED collaborates with community partners, non-profit organizations, and municipal departments to address design-related projects in underserved areas and for underrepresented populations in the Piedmont-Triad area.”
Director Travis Hicks and Department Chair Anna Marshall-Baker, as well as faculty and student fellows, introduced the visiting advisors to the wide range of community engagement endeavors ongoing at the CC-ED. The CC-ED is a productive and inspiring addition to public interest design in NC. Learn more…
