Party for Preservation 01.26.16

On a beautiful sunny afternoon in late November, Jennifer and Victor Chen held a reception for friends of Preservation Chapel Hill at their recently renovated Arthur C. Nash House on South Boundary Street. Bizios Architect is pleased to have served as architectural consultants to the Chens on the building’s renovation/preservation. We welcomed the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful home in the winter afternoon light along with so many Nash enthusiasts.

Arthur C. Nash was the architect of many of the early buildings on the UNC Chapel Hill campus, including The Carolina Inn. He also designed and built a home for his family just across from campus. The home has many strong design ideas that work perfectly even today: clear circulation, beautiful natural light in all rooms, storage walls between rooms, connections to the out-of-doors, simple clean detailing and decoration. Nash’s wife, Mary Screven Arnold Nash was an accomplished painter and the house included a spacious studio with a large north facing window wall, a unique space that has been preserved and adds a lot of character to the house.
