This Chapel Hill renovation and addition preserves the home’s original character while thoughtfully reworking the layout for modern living. Removing an enormous central fireplace liberated space and views on the upper and lower levels. The kitchen was opened and upgraded with a large walk-in pantry, creating better function and storage. The owners collaborated closely with a local artisan to bring their vision for the fireplace’s oxidized copper surround to life. Relocating the garage to the west improved driveway access and made room for a new primary suite.
The renovation extends outdoors with a spacious screened porch, grilling area, and detached backyard workshop. Stone and wood bridges compliment the site’s natural drainage patterns while linking the workshop, home, and outdoor seating areas into a cohesive landscape experience.
